Leak shows payments to Silent Ransom Group tied to law firm extortion
Chainalysis said some of the cryptocurrency wallet addresses exposed in the leak were already being tracked, including one linked to a $10 million victim payment.
A leak posted to the internet has exposed payments made to Silent Ransom Group, a cyber extortion group that targets law firms, according to blockchain investigations firm Chainalysis.
Chainalysis said the data includes chat logs, alleged ransom demand totals, documents, and dozens of cryptocurrency wallet addresses attributed to the group, after an unknown party published the troves on a site called “The Luna Moth Files.”
The FBI previously warned that Silent Ransom Group was stealing data from law firms through hacks and demanding millions of dollars to prevent it from being posted, including by contacting specific employees through phone calls, emails, or sometimes in-person visits to access victims’ computers.
Chainalysis said at least some of the cryptocurrency addresses in the leaks were already on its watchlist, including one reflecting a $10 million victim payment related to SRG’s activity.
