DNB moves about 86 tonnes of gold from North America to London

London’s share of the central bank’s reserves rose to 32.1%, while New York and Ottawa each fell to 18.5%.

De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) moved about 86 tonnes of gold from North America to London between March and August 2026, aiming to bolster its crisis preparedness and place the metal in a more geopolitically secure financial hub, Mining.com reported.

The transfer increased London’s share of DNB reserves to 32.1% from 18.1%. DNB said holdings stored in New York and Ottawa both declined to 18.5% each, while gold kept in Zeist, Netherlands, remained at 30.8%.

DNB said the relocation improved the tradability of its gold reserves, and Governor Olaf Sleijpen said the bank expects it will never need to use the holdings but wants stronger resilience and preparedness.

Mining.com also reported that DNB held 612.4 tonnes of gold worth €72.2 billion, or $80.7 billion, at year-end 2025, and that prior to the relocation about 313 tonnes were stored in the US and Canada.
