EIA projects mixed winter energy spending across US households
The EIA expects households that heat with natural gas and propane to see lower spending, while higher electricity and heating oil prices will lift costs for other households.
The US Energy Information Administration expects winter energy expenditures to vary across households due to diverging fuel price trends and differences in forecast temperatures by region.
According to the EIA, lower natural gas and propane prices will reduce energy spending this year for about half of US households that use those fuels for heating.
The EIA also projects that higher electricity and heating oil prices will increase expenditures for households that rely on those fuels, contributing to the overall mixed outlook.
The agency attributes the shift to both fuel-specific price movements and regional temperature variation during the winter season.
