Equinor and partners find up to 10.3 million boe at Gullfaks South
The discovery was made using an exploration sidetrack drilled during work on a production well at the Gullfaks South field.
Equinor and its partners have made a natural gas-focused discovery at Norway’s Gullfaks South field, estimating recoverable volumes of 3.3 million to 10.3 million barrels of oil equivalent.
OilPrice reports the teams reached the find by drilling an exploration sidetrack while carrying out work on a production well.
The outlet said the announcement, made October 8, underscores how targeted exploration can help sustain output from mature North Sea assets.
The discovery’s commercial appeal centers on using sidetrack drilling to extend resources from an established producing area, according to OilPrice.
