Ethereum researcher Justin Drake urges users to move funds to fresh addresses
Drake warned that AI advancements could threaten the cryptography behind wallet security before quantum computers arrive.
Ethereum researcher Justin Drake urged crypto users to prepare for “bunker mode” by gradually moving assets to fresh addresses, according to Cointelegraph. He framed the advice around concerns that advances in artificial intelligence could undermine the cryptography used to secure wallets.
Drake said recent AI progress, including mathematical breakthroughs highlighted alongside OpenAI, could eventually make it possible to break the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm, or ECDSA, used in today’s blockchain security. He added that the risk from AI could emerge before quantum computers do.
The guidance was shared by Drake in an X post on Wednesday, Cointelegraph reported. Cointelegraph also noted the article was published Oct. 8, 2026.
