Vitalik Buterin urges crypto users to prepare for “bunker mode”
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin backed guidance from Ethereum researcher Justin Drake to gradually move funds to fresh wallets as AI advances could weaken ECDSA-backed wallet security before quantum computers do.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has endorsed new guidance urging crypto users to adopt “bunker mode,” as advances in artificial intelligence could weaken the cryptography used to secure blockchain wallets before quantum computers arrive, Cointelegraph reports.
The warning, issued by Ethereum researcher Justin Drake, argues that AI could eventually make it possible to break the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm, or ECDSA, which is used to protect cryptocurrency wallets.
In response, the guidance says users should consider an orderly, gradual migration of funds to fresh addresses or wallets, aimed at improving security if ECDSA becomes compromised.
The article also frames the effort as preparation for future cryptographic risk, rather than waiting for quantum developments.
