EU lawmakers urge crypto focus in anti-corruption strategy
Members of the European Parliament want the Commission to prioritize tracing, freezing, confiscating, and recovering criminal proceeds tied to crypto assets and related structures.
European lawmakers are pressing the European Commission to add a crypto-related focus to its upcoming anti-corruption strategy, citing corruption risks tied to crypto assets, opaque ownership structures, and digital tools, Cointelegraph reports.
According to Cointelegraph, the European Parliament adopted a nonbinding resolution outlining priorities for the Commission, including stronger efforts to trace, freeze, confiscate, and recover criminal proceeds.
The push is set to complement the European Union’s anti-corruption directive, which entered into force in May, Cointelegraph adds.
Cointelegraph also notes that the Commission plans to adopt its first anti-corruption strategy by the end of this year.
