Google Cloud unveils Gemini Agent for workplace tasks and coworker roles

The universal Gemini Agent can run in the cloud for hours or days and is designed to create “coworker agents” with their own Workspace email, calendar, and directory listing.

Google Cloud introduced a universal Gemini Agent for the workplace, positioning it as an AI coworker that can take a goal, complete the work, and return a finished result, according to Decrypt.

The agent is built to operate across Google Workspace apps including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Chat, and Calendar, and it also reaches into Microsoft 365 and Slack, the outlet said.

Google says the agent keeps running in the cloud after a user closes a laptop, allowing tasks to stretch across hours or days, and it includes a “coworker agents” feature where a manager can describe a role and Gemini creates an agent with its own Workspace account, including an email address, calendar, Drive storage, and a company directory listing.

Decrypt added that the agent can connect to tools such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Jira, Snowflake, BigQuery, and other systems that support Model Context Protocol.
