North Korea criticizes South Korea medical aid plans as sovereignty violation
Kim Yo-jong said South Korea sought UN sanctions exemptions and framed the package as political goodwill rather than humanitarian help.
North Korea’s Kim Yo-jong, a senior official in the ruling Workers’ Party and sister of leader Kim Jong-un, denounced South Korea’s plans to provide medical equipment aid to Pyongyang.
In a statement carried by state media KCNA, Kim called the move a “political provocation” and said Seoul’s approach violated North Korea’s sovereignty.
She criticized South Korea for publicizing efforts to obtain United Nations sanctions exemptions for the medical aid package, arguing South Korea insulted Pyongyang by citing shortages of medicines and medical equipment and deteriorating health conditions.
Kim also said the aid proposal was meant to showcase South Korea’s “goodwill” while contrasting with North Korea’s rejection of the help, calling it a politically motivated scheme.
