ORR rejects plans to add more trains on West Coast Main Line
The rail regulator said gaps in the current timetable are needed to allow trains to recover from disruptions on the heavily used route.
The UK rail regulator, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), has rejected proposals to add new train services on the West Coast Main Line, arguing that additional departures would likely harm passenger reliability.
The ORR said it refused Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway's application for four daily return services between Wrexham and London Euston, and Lumo's plan to run up to four return services between Rochdale and Euston on weekdays and Saturdays, with three on Sundays.
Avanti West Coast's request to add more services between Blackpool and Euston was also denied, with the ORR citing the timetable's need for space to recover when disruption occurs, in order to minimize delays to passengers.
BBC Business reports that the ORR added the route is already under significant pressure, noting performance reflecting limited resilience on a heavily used part of the rail network, and said its decision followed similar applications being rejected.
