Rail regulator rejects new London direct services to Wrexham and Rochdale

Plans to run new direct train services from London to Wrexham and Rochdale were rejected by the rail regulator, according to The Guardian Business.

The Office of Rail and Road said the crowded west coast main line has “significant pressure,” leaving insufficient space to add two separate direct services.

The ORR also vetoed additional London to Blackpool train services requested by Avanti.

The article further says the ORR previously knocked back plans for a new independent open access service linking Wrexham and the capital proposed by the Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway Company, and that the ORR said the revised plan was still not workable.
