Rail regulator rejects new London direct services to Wrexham and Rochdale

The Office of Rail and Road said the crowded west coast main line has insufficient capacity to add the two new separate routes.

Plans to operate new direct train services from London to Wrexham and Rochdale have been rejected by the rail regulator, the Office of Rail and Road.

According to the Guardian Business, the ORR said there is insufficient space on the crowded west coast main line because of significant pressure on the route.

The regulator also vetoed Avanti’s request for additional London to Blackpool services.

The outlet added that the ORR previously knocked back plans for a new independent open access service linking Wrexham and London that were put forward by the Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway Company.
