Zimbabwe lithium export earnings jump to $2.16 billion in nine months
The minerals marketing agency said spodumene concentrate pricing rose 283%, lifting concentrate income to $1.8 billion and adding $190 million from lithium sulphate.
Zimbabwe’s lithium export earnings surged to $2.16 billion in the nine months through September 30, nearly four times the amount recorded for all of last year, the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe said, according to LiveMint Markets.
The increase was driven mainly by a 283% jump in the price of spodumene concentrate, which accounted for $1.8 billion of total lithium export income. Petalite contributed $155 million.
Zimbabwe also reported $190 million in lithium sulphate sales, with China’s Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt beginning sulphate exports from its Zimbabwe mine in April after building an Africa-focused lithium salt plant for $400 million.
By the end of September, the MMCZ said about 33,000 metric tons of lithium sulphate had been exported.
