Bitcoin Core merges privacy fix into 32.x while 31.x backport stays open
The fix is available in the 32.x source branch, but the backport for the latest stable release, 31.1, was still pending as of Oct. 8, with no 31.2 release date set.
Bitcoin Core has merged a privacy fix into its 32.x source branch to address behavior that could correlate private-broadcast connections with ordinary node connections, according to CryptoSlate.
CryptoSlate reports that the backport for the 31.x line remained open as of Oct. 8, leaving users who enable the feature on the latest stable release, 31.1, awaiting the repair. The article also notes that private broadcast remains disabled by default.
CryptoSlate adds that a related backport proposal to bring the fix to 31.x was approved by reviewer vasild on Oct. 6 and assigned a 31.2 milestone, but the assignment did not include a release date. The official download page still lists 31.1 as the latest version, while the 32.0 directory contains test candidates, including rc3 binaries dated Oct. 6.
The fix is intended to be used via the privatebroadcast option for submissions sent through sendrawtransaction, which uses dedicated short lived connections to Tor or I2P peers, or to IPv4 and IPv6 peers through Tor. CryptoSlate says the connection linking concern applies to this private broadcast activity rather than every node running the default.
