Blockchain.com seeks CFTC licenses for prediction market offerings
The filings would set Blockchain.com up as a designated contract market for event contracts and as a broker via futures commission merchant status for crypto derivatives.
Blockchain.com has reportedly applied to the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission for approval to offer prediction markets and related crypto derivatives, as courts continue to weigh cases involving the segment, according to Cointelegraph citing CNBC.
The exchange reportedly filed for two CFTC licenses, one as a designated contract market for event contracts, and another as a futures commission merchant for derivatives contracts.
If granted, the licenses would allow Blockchain.com to operate as a futures exchange for event contracts and as a broker for derivatives for US-based retail and institutional investors.
Cointelegraph reported the development comes amid ongoing legal scrutiny of prediction market offerings, with the CFTC filings positioned as a path to operate within the regulator framework.
