Trump creates White House committee to probe Fed Governor Lisa Cook

The panel is scheduled to hold a Nov. 5 hearing and may recommend her removal “for cause,” per a White House memorandum.

HousingWire reports that President Donald Trump has formed a White House committee to investigate allegations involving Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and alleged falsification of bank documents tied to mortgage terms.

The probe follows referrals from FHFA director Bill Pulte and a Justice Department investigation, and the committee’s mandate focuses on whether Cook made false statements connected to one or more mortgage instruments.

According to HousingWire, the White House memorandum says the committee could recommend Cook be removed “for cause,” and notes it is designed to hold a hearing on Nov. 5.

The committee includes the assistant to the president for economic policy, the chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the director of the Office of Government Ethics, as outlined in the memorandum posted on the White House website.
