New York settlement permanently bars Celsius founder Mashinsky

The deal settles a 2023 civil fraud case and requires conditional payments up to $35 million if he does not forfeit an additional $10 million.

Cointelegraph reports that New York has permanently barred former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky from working in the cryptocurrency, securities, and commodities industries under a settlement with New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The agreement resolves a 2023 civil lawsuit alleging Mashinsky misled hundreds of thousands of investors about Celsius’s safety before the platform’s 2022 collapse.

Under the settlement, Mashinsky must pay New York $25 million if he fails to forfeit an additional $10 million, bringing potential conditional payments to up to $35 million.
