Paladin expands rare earth recovery capacity for U.S. supply needs

The company produces about 40 metric tonnes of recovered material annually and expects its expanded 150 tonnes per year capacity to be operational by the start of the third quarter next year.

Mining.com reports electronics recycler Paladin EnviroTech is expanding its rare earth recovery operations to help address the United States supply gap as mine development and processing capacity take longer to build.

Paladin currently produces about 40 metric tonnes of recovered rare earth material per year and invested more than $5 million to raise capacity to 150 tonnes per year, running on a three shift basis.

The expanded facility is expected to be operational by the beginning of the third quarter next year, as U.S. manufacturers remain heavily dependent on overseas supply, especially for heavy rare earth elements used in high performance permanent magnets.

Paladin operates six facilities across the United States and another two in Europe, in the Netherlands and Ireland, with a South Korean operation planned, and it intends to replicate its recovery capabilities in Europe and Korea.
