Coal demand rises as LNG flows from the Persian Gulf stay depressed

Liquefied natural gas flows from the Persian Gulf remain more than 75% below pre-February 28 levels, while Europe’s November natural gas benchmark trades above 81 euros per MWh.

Liquefied natural gas flows from the Persian Gulf are still more than 75% lower than they were before February 28, even as heating demand rises ahead of winter, OilPrice reports.

In Europe, the November natural gas benchmark contract is trading at over 81 euros per MWh, according to OilPrice.

In Asia, the spot LNG market price has topped Europe’s, drawing cargoes eastward, the outlet adds.

OilPrice also notes coal is about 80% cheaper than LNG, supporting a shift toward coal.
