Nato commander says alliance is ready to fight if attacked

The commander said he does not believe conflict is imminent, and cited recent covert incidents including an arson attack in Estonia and a failed attempt to target a Ukrainian aircraft in Germany.

Nato’s top military commander told the Warsaw Security Forum that the alliance is ready to fight immediately if it is attacked, describing this stance as part of its “Theory of Victory,” according to the SCMP Economy, citing a report by the Associated Press.

European officials have warned that Russia could test Nato’s defenses with increased covert attacks or a limited military incursion, SCMP Economy reported, pointing to recent incidents including an arson attack on an Estonian defense company and a failed attempt to attack a Ukrainian aircraft at a German airport.

SCMP Economy said the commander added that he does not believe a conflict is imminent or inevitable, and argued that preserving peace depends on preparing for war while keeping open communications to resolve misunderstandings.
