Poundland in talks with buyers as management seeks buyout
Poundland expects 2026 sales to be up more than 3% year over year, according to its managing director.
Retail chain Poundland has confirmed it is in talks with potential buyers as it tries to secure a rescue deal. The company said executives are working with an Irish property development group on a management buyout.
A union representing shopworkers warned the retailer could fall into administration if the buyout effort fails, potentially putting thousands of jobs at risk. The retailer has been struggling for several years amid rising costs and competition.
Poundland expects sales to have grown more than 3% in 2026 versus the prior year, and managing director Barry Williams said that result earlier this month was evidence its recovery plan is working. The chain was sold for £1 last summer by Pepco to US investment firm Gordon Brothers.
Poundland said the current owners are also seeking other buyers, with the management team pursuing the buyout. The company said Williams and leadership team members, along with Andy Bond, a former Pepco chairman, are working with Irish real estate firm Martin Property Group.
