Swiss Re executive says more reinsurance capital is welcome as risks grow

Swiss Re said reinsurance supply and demand are both increasing in a more competitive market.

Swiss Re said a growing supply of reinsurance capital is positive for an industry dealing with increasingly interconnected risks, according to Leopoldo Camara, head of P&C Reinsurance for Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, speaking ahead of the Baden-Baden gathering 2026.

Camara added that more capital is needed to respond to the rising risks and said both reinsurance supply and demand are growing, even as the market becomes more competitive.

The executive also said different types of reinsurance capital play different roles, pointing to Swiss Re’s capital approach and risk expertise, and emphasized that the company’s core mandate is paying claims.

Swiss Re described its coverage across life, health and P&C lines, spanning both short-tail and long-tail risks, alongside its commitment to combining capital with risk expertise.
