XRP Ledger payment engine bug could have enabled excess XRP minting

Decrypt reports that an integer overflow in the XRP Ledger payment engine, dormant since 2015, could have allowed an attacker to mint spendable XRP beyond the token’s total supply.

The outlet says the issue was hidden within the payment engine rather than in other parts of the ledger, and it had remained inactive until discovered.
