Bull Bitcoin challenges France’s DAC8 crypto data surveillance rules in court
Bull Bitcoin filed its challenge with France’s Conseil d’État, seeking to annul Decree No. 2025-1276 that transposes the EU’s DAC8 directive into French law.
Bull Bitcoin, a non-custodial Bitcoin exchange licensed under Europe’s MiCA framework, has filed a legal challenge in France to annul Decree No. 2025-1276, the measure that transposes the EU’s DAC8 directive into French law, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
The exchange is asking France’s Conseil d’État, the country’s supreme administrative court, to strike down the decree on the grounds that it establishes a mass surveillance database that institutions may not be able to secure against leaks and data hacks, the outlet reports.
Alongside the court action, Bull Bitcoin is making dac8.com public as a fully sourced resource aimed at providing information to citizens, journalists, and policymakers, Bitcoin Magazine says, citing a company press release.
Bitcoin Magazine adds that Bull Bitcoin and others argue the monitoring framework could increase personal risk for crypto users, pointing to a rise in kidnappings and physical attacks across Europe with France highlighted as an epicenter, and noting that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can be transferred internationally.
