Bunge plans to boost Italian soybean processing after €4.4 million upgrade
The Porto Corsini plant upgrade, including new storage and expanded lab capacity, is expected to be fully operational by the end of summer for the next harvest.
Bunge Global SA is investing €4.4 million, about $5 million, to upgrade its soybean processing facility in Porto Corsini, Ravenna, Italy, with construction completed in June, World Grain reports.
The modernization includes a new seed receival system, increased storage capacity through a new silo and chain conveyors, and an expanded in-house laboratory for faster, more complete analysis. Bunge also added a rear truck unloading facility to complement the existing side unloading setup to support modern transportation methods.
Bunge said the renovated plant is expected to be fully operational by the end of the summer, ahead of the next harvest season. The investment is intended to double processing of Italian-grown soybeans, while also complementing supply from other origins.
The company said the expansion will allow it to increase purchases of soybeans from Italy’s main agricultural regions, including Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. World Grain notes that Italy is the EU’s top soybean producer, and the EU projects Italy will harvest 848,000 tonnes in 2026 after three straight years of just over 1 million tonnes.
