China urged to back open source AI amid US race

SCMP Economy reports that a Chinese academic warned China must overhaul its innovation ecosystem to avoid losing technological sovereignty and national security in an AI race with the United States.
The outlet says Huang Ping, assistant dean at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), urged China to strongly back open source artificial intelligence.
