Cyber insurance and compliance are key to iGaming resilience
Insurance Journal argues that insurers will underwrite only licensed iGaming operators that meet governance and compliance standards, leaving unlicensed firms outside formal coverage.
Insurance Journal says resilience, trust and innovation are increasingly central to the iGaming industry as it matures into a regulated, global market attracting mainstream attention.
The outlet, citing commentary from Elizabeth Grima of Lloyd’s broker New Dawn Risk and Craig Lusher of IT solutions provider Continent 8 Technologies, frames insurance and cyber protection as “twin pillars” that can help operators manage risk as regulators tighten oversight.
The article points to recent European Court of Justice rulings that highlight inconsistencies in licensing and enforcement across EU member states, and notes that jurisdictions including the Netherlands face criticism over anti competitive structures, while India and Brazil are moving toward stricter frameworks.
According to Insurance Journal, unlicensed operators continue to exist alongside regulated markets and can offer aggressive bonuses by avoiding licensing fees, taxes, and compliance overheads, but they are also outside formal insurance eligibility because insurers will only underwrite licensed operators that meet minimum governance and compliance standards.
