U.S. operable refinery capacity fell to 18.2 million bpd

The EIA says operable atmospheric distillation capacity declined by more than 250,000 bpd, about 1%, year over year.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said U.S. operable atmospheric distillation capacity totaled 18.2 million barrels per calendar day on January 1, 2026.

That level was down over 250,000 bpd, about 1%, compared with January 1, 2025, based on the EIA’s annual Refinery Capacity Report.
