CISA uses Anthropic’s Mythos to scan government code for vulnerabilities

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is running the scans through its Attack Surface Evaluation team, which performs security assessments and hacking exercises across government.

Reuters reports that the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, CISA, is using Anthropic’s AI model Mythos to audit government software.

According to multiple sources, CISA’s Attack Surface Evaluation team is scanning government code repositories to find bugs that could expose systems to foreign spies or cybercriminals, and the audits have already uncovered a large number of vulnerabilities.

The report says Reuters could not determine how much code the team has reviewed or the nature and severity of the issues it found.

The initiative comes as Anthropic navigates an earlier dispute with the White House over safeguards tied to Mythos, including a period in which the Pentagon issued a supply-chain risk designation that was later blocked by a judge in March, while other US intelligence agencies have continued testing the model.

The story also notes that Anthropic has confidentially filed for a US initial public offering.
