China praises North Korea’s housing progress during Premier Pak trip

The visit follows Beijing’s rare positive remarks, citing North Korea’s completion of 50,000 housing units in the capital over five years and about 32,000 newly built rural homes in 2025.

North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song has started a three-day trip to China, arriving in Beijing with a joint party and government delegation, according to SCMP Economy.

During the visit, China offered rare praise for North Korea’s economic achievements, pointing in particular to progress on housing for both urban and rural residents.

SCMP Economy said Pyongyang completed 50,000 housing units in the capital over the past five years and built about 32,000 new homes in rural areas during 2025.

The report ties the remarks to the high-profile nature of the trip and China’s willingness to publicly highlight specific economic outcomes in North Korea.
