Echo Re appoints Ankur Sharma as Principal Officer in India
Echo Re received its GIFT City branch license in March 2026, and the new office is designed to expand its treaty reinsurance footprint in India.
Zurich-based reinsurer Echo Re has named Ankur Sharma as Principal Officer for its India branch at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, or GIFT City.
Sharma joins Echo Re after nearly 10 years at Swiss Re, where he last served as a Vice President and held roles across the firm’s Mumbai and Bangalore offices, with earlier experience at Credit Suisse, now UBS, and Accenture.
Echo Re’s appointment comes after the company was granted a license in March 2026 to set up a branch office at GIFT City. The reinsurer said it has maintained a presence in India for more than a decade.
Echo Re said the new office will build quickly on its existing footing in the Indian market and support its expansion, including a well-diversified treaty reinsurance portfolio across property and casualty and specialty lines, with the goal of broadening its international footprint.
