GalaxySpace eyes Hong Kong and Macau as hubs for overseas space tech
GalaxySpace, a Beijing-based commercial space firm, said it has launched 46 of its self-developed satellites as it seeks collaboration across the three cities.
Hong Kong and Macau are positioned as key gateways for mainland China’s push to build a globally competitive commercial space industry, according to executives at Beijing-based GalaxySpace. During a media tour in Beijing, Xin Yichun, GalaxySpace’s general manager of government and corporate partnership, said Beijing is China’s hub for satellite research, development and manufacturing, while Hong Kong and Macau complement those strengths with international business networks and global connectivity. The company also called for closer collaboration among the three cities, describing Hong Kong and Macau as a platform for Chinese commercial technology and services to expand overseas.
GalaxySpace said it is using that cross-city approach as Beijing accelerates efforts to develop commercial space and domestic satellite network industries. Founded in 2018, the company develops low-Earth orbit satellites and communications technologies.
The outlet also noted that GalaxySpace has been advancing an initial public offering process for a domestic listing earlier this year, and that it has launched a total of 46 self-developed satellites as of this month.
