BYD’s Denza Z9GT trip promotes Blade Battery 2.0 and fast charging
The Rome-to-Hong Kong test drive started June 13 and is set to end around July 25, as BYD says overseas deliveries rose 82.5% year over year in the first half.
BYD is using a long-distance road trip to highlight its battery and charging technology, sending upgraded Denza Z9GT cars across multiple countries in Europe as part of a planned 15,000 km journey to Hong Kong. South China Morning Post reports the cars have been traveling through places including Italy, Croatia, Serbia, and Turkey for nearly a month, with the start date set at June 13 and an estimated arrival in Hong Kong around July 25.
The Z9GT featured on the trip is fitted with BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 packs, which the company says are arranged to increase energy density and improve resistance to overheating. According to SCMP Economy, BYD says the car can travel as far as 1,036 km on a single charge.
The campaign comes as BYD expands outside China, with SCMP Economy saying the automaker is testing the vehicle amid a period of surging demand for battery-powered cars driven by a global energy shock tied to the US-Israel war with Iran. BYD also said the route is inspired by Marco Polo and includes stops such as Vatican City, as well as later travel through parts of Asia.
BYD reported that in the first half of this year its overseas deliveries rose 82.5% year over year to 471,091 units, representing 42.5% of total deliveries compared with 20% last year, according to the outlet.
