Empery Digital sells 1,400 bitcoin to fund AI data center
The company raised $87.1 million, plans no further BTC purchases, and still holds 1,514 bitcoin.
Empery Digital said it sold 1,400 bitcoin at $62,200 each, bringing in $87.1 million in proceeds, according to CoinDesk. The company said the funds will support an AI data center in the Midwest.
Empery still holds 1,514 bitcoin but does not intend to purchase more, and it may sell additional coins if opportunities arise, CoinDesk reported. The shift follows earlier disclosures that it would need $65 million to complete its 25% ownership stake in a group acquiring a Midwest facility for conversion into an AI data center.
CoinDesk noted that Empery was among the SPAC deals formed during the 2025 crypto treasury company frenzy. It added that results for similar deals have been weak, with many share prices down 90% or more from 2025 highs.
Empery co-CEO Ryan Lane said the company plans to keep allocating capital to hyperscaler-anchored opportunities, CoinDesk reported. The article frames the moves as part of a broader pattern of crypto treasury companies becoming sellers of digital assets they acquired in 2025.
