Health care executives face rising workers comp claims and safety needs
A Sentry survey says health care executives are asking more of employees amid longer hours, aging staffing, and rising demand, a mix that can raise workers’ compensation exposure and claim severity.
A new white paper from Sentry says health care executives are confronting mounting workforce pressures, including longer hours, expanded responsibilities, and an aging workforce, as demand for care continues to rise.
According to the Sentry C-Suite Stress survey, executives are asking more of their employees across the health care sector, with those conditions intersecting with workforce trends that can translate into higher workers’ compensation exposures, increased claim severity, and greater focus on workforce safety and well-being, said Jeff Cole, Sentry Insurance’s assistant vice president of national accounts.
The white paper also links broader market dynamics to rising risk complexity, noting that U.S. liability claims have increased 57% over the past decade due to factors such as rising litigation and large jury verdicts.
It adds that recent industry survey data shows 86% of independent insurance agents report challenges with market access and product availability as carriers adjust capacity and underwriting strategies, leaving some complex health care-related risks harder to place on optimal terms.
