Scammers spoof RingGo texts to push fake parking fee payments

The Guardian Business reports that fraudsters are circulating fake text messages that claim recipients owe unpaid parking fees through RingGo, an app used to pay for parking with a smartphone.

The texts use language about routine reviews and asks users to arrange settlement promptly to reduce the risk of further financial charges or administrative action, but the outlet says the message is a scam.

According to The Guardian Business, clicking the link takes users to a close copy of the real RingGo website, enabled by advances in AI that help scammers clone legitimate sites. The article says entering credentials or card details can allow criminals to drain accounts or sell personal information.

The story also notes the scam prompts recipients to provide a vehicle registration number, and if needed, to copy and paste the link into a browser, with multiple red flags including a link that starts with “ringgo” but then includes unassociated words and requires a “Y” response to activate it.
