Hong Kong may issue No 1 typhoon standby signal amid heavy rain risk
The Hong Kong Observatory said the low pressure system could be closest to the city Tuesday morning and pass within 100 km.
Hong Kong’s weather forecaster said the city may issue a No 1 typhoon standby signal between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, warning of heavy rainstorms.
According to SCMP Economy, the Observatory said an area of low pressure over the northern part of the South China Sea is expected to edge closer to the coast of Guangdong, with its cloud bands taking time to consolidate.
The Observatory said it will be clearer whether the system develops into a tropical depression only when it is relatively close to Guangdong, with the lowest pressure expected to be nearest Hong Kong on Tuesday morning.
SCMP Economy added that the system could skirt within 100 km of the city.
