Insurance risk managers spotlight using common tools to solve coverage gaps
One 2026 Risk All Star, Cassi Gipson at Encompass Health System, said she built a risk data workflow using SharePoint worksheets and Power Automate instead of an RMIS, supporting 170-plus hospitals and more than 40,000 employees.
Risk management professionals in the insurance ecosystem are being recognized for efforts that rely on widely available tools rather than purchasing vendor systems, according to Risk & Insurance.
In its announcement of the 2026 Risk All Stars, the outlet said the contest is judged on creativity, passion and perseverance, and that for next year it will add a fourth trait, initiative.
One example highlighted by Risk & Insurance is Cassi Gipson, director of risk management for the Encompass Health System. The outlet reported that Gipson leads a two-person team supporting 170-plus hospitals and more than 40,000 employees, and that her organization needed a better way to collect and organize risk data.
Risk & Insurance said Gipson described using SharePoint worksheets and Microsoft Power Automate, with information pulled into a shared OneNote notebook, to track claim payments on complex insurance programs and self-insurance regulatory requirements by state. She also cited capabilities including quicker claims reporting, COI requests, tracking contract exceptions, and accessing facility information.
