Mexico seeks criminal charges over deaths tied to US immigration raids

Mexico said at least 17 Mexican citizens have died while held by ICE or during federal raids since President Donald Trump returned to the White House last year.

Mexico said it is seeking criminal charges over the killings of several Mexicans by US immigration authorities, adding that it does not want a conflict with the United States.

At a daily press conference, Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum said the case is about standing up for Mexican citizens.

SCMP Economy reports Mexico pointed to deaths occurring either while people were held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement or during federal raids.

The country cited at least 17 Mexican citizens who have died since President Donald Trump returned to the White House last year.
