US Vanadium wins Defense Logistics Agency contract for vanadium supply

The three-year award covers domestically produced high-purity vanadium pentoxide flake, a material the US uses to make aerospace and defense titanium alloys.

US Vanadium LLC, a subsidiary of TechMet USA, said it has been awarded its largest contract to date by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency Strategic Materials team to supply domestically produced high-purity vanadium pentoxide flake over the next three years.

The company said it is the only current US producer of high-purity vanadium pentoxide flake used to manufacture aerospace-grade titanium alloys, serving defense, aerospace, space, and advanced manufacturing applications.

US Vanadium noted the US remains heavily dependent on imports for vanadium, citing domestic production of about 7,500 metric tons in 2025 versus US consumption of roughly 13,000 metric tons. It imports most vanadium pentoxide from Brazil and South Africa, and ferrovanadium from Russia and China.

According to the company, it operates two facilities in Arkansas that recover and process vanadium from petroleum refining and other post-industrial waste streams. It added the award follows its 2025 launch of domestic production and referenced support from DLA Research and Development Office funding and Traxys North America, while TechMet CEO Brian Menell said the decision helps expand America’s domestic critical minerals processing capacity.
