Typhoon Bavi shuts Shenyang subway and drives 360,000 evacuations
Emergency measures in Shenyang include suspending three entire transit lines and nearly 300mm of rainfall-related road flooding.
Typhoon Bavi is lashing Shenyang, the transport and economic hub of Liaoning province, prompting local authorities to halt non-essential travel and shut parts of the city’s subway network, according to SCMP Economy.
More than 360,000 people across Liaoning have been evacuated as of Tuesday morning, while schools were suspended on Monday and authorities urged residents to work from home and avoid non-essential trips.
The storm’s heavy rainfall triggered urban flooding in Shenyang, with standing water reaching nearly 300mm, leaving numerous vehicles submerged. By Tuesday morning, the municipal government announced the closure of multiple subway entrances and the temporary suspension of three entire transit lines because of the downpour.
