JD.com launches AI smart helmet for food delivery riders
The helmet uses voice commands and turn by turn prompts to help riders manage orders and navigation in poor weather without using smartphones.
Chinese e commerce giant JD.com has launched an AI powered smart helmet for food delivery riders, aiming to improve safety and delivery efficiency, the company said in a Monday announcement, according to SCMP Economy.
The device includes an AI driven voice assistant paired with a camera that can recognize the surrounding environment. JD.com said the helmet is designed to minimize distractions in poor weather, when riders often travel by electric bike and have trouble using smartphones in wet conditions or limited visibility.
Instead of pulling over to interact with a screen in heavy rain, couriers can use voice commands to handle new orders, communicate with customers, and complete other essential tasks while driving, the report said. JD.com also said the system delivers turn by turn voice prompts based on route patterns used by experienced riders, which it says can help newer workers navigate unfamiliar areas.
Additional AI assisted features include automatically reading customer delivery instructions, such as contactless drop off requests, and supporting quality assurance checks when riders collect orders. SCMP Economy reported JD.com said the helmet could flag potential hygiene issues at a restaurant.
