CATL unveils Shenxing battery series focused on safer, fast charging
CATL says its Shenxing design isolates individual cells with separate exhaust and power paths to reduce heat spread that can degrade lithium-ion batteries.
Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd, CATL, hosted a tech event in Beijing in late April to showcase its next generation electric vehicle battery product series, Shenxing, drawing nearly 1,000 attendees interested in how the technology could reshape the global auto industry, according to SCMP Economy.
CATL’s chief technology officer for its auto business, Gao Huan, highlighted the tradeoff behind fast charging, noting that rapid charging can generate heat that may accelerate degradation in lithium-ion batteries and shorten their lifespan.
The company described its approach to managing that heat by isolating individual cells so thermal effects do not spread through the pack. SCMP Economy reports that Shenxing uses independent sealed exhaust channels to let heat exit the battery pack through separate paths from the electricity.
CATL also tied the battery concept to verification and quality control, saying it has developed testing and verification capabilities and deploys 7,000 quality checkpoints along each product line, with testing focused on reliability under extreme manufacturing conditions.
