ASR appoints Yelhis Hernández as Latin America regional lead
The Mexico City-based role is focused on expanding ASR’s regional presence and growth strategy for developing markets reinsurance.
Africa Specialty Risks, a developing markets-focused reinsurance group, has appointed Yelhis Hernández as its Regional Lead for Latin America.
In her new role based in Mexico City, Hernández will report to Amit Khilosia, Chief Distribution Officer, and will be responsible for expanding the group’s regional presence by building relationships with clients, brokers, and strategic partners.
ASR said Hernández brings close to three decades of professional experience, including more than 18 years in reinsurance. She previously worked at Lloyd’s for more than eight years in senior market development and relationship management roles across London, Mexico, and Central America, overseeing a portfolio exceeding US$20 billion.
In comments on the appointment, ASR’s CEO Mikir Shah said Latin America represents a growth step as the region has “substantial and increasingly complex insurance needs,” and that ASR will look to work alongside local partners to help address protection gaps. Hernández added that businesses in the region face increasingly complex risks but often lack access to specialty capacity and solutions, according to the outlet.
