Berkshire Hathaway stops Gates charity donations after Epstein testimony

Berkshire Hathaway said it will end donations to Bill Gates’ charity for the first time in 20 years and transfer his remaining stock to family-linked foundations.

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett said his firm Berkshire Hathaway has described Bill Gates’ relationship with the late sex offender Jeffery Epstein as “distasteful,” and it has stopped donating to Gates’ charity for the first time in 20 years.

According to BBC Business, Buffett told CNBC that the donation pivot followed Gates’ testimony to the US House Oversight Committee in June, during which Gates discussed being introduced to Epstein in 2011 as a potential fundraiser for global health.

The outlet reported that Gates told lawmakers he should never have met Epstein, and that even if Epstein had delivered the donors he promised, it would not have justified associating with him.

BBC Business also noted that Buffett has said he has made mistakes in life by being friends with people he later viewed as not “great,” and that Berkshire Hathaway will instead hand over Gates’ remaining stock to foundations linked to his family.
