Malaysia’s first littoral combat ship to arrive in December without anti-ship missiles
The Royal Malaysian Navy says the omission of anti-ship strike capability will not change the delivery timeline, which remains set for December.
Malaysia is preparing to take delivery of its first littoral combat ship in December, but the vessel will arrive without anti-ship missiles, limiting the class's intended role as a way to strike enemy ships, according to SCMP Economy.
The ship is described as fully equipped for anti-submarine, anti-air, and electronic warfare, including the systems expected to define those missions, but it will not include weapons for taking on surface targets for now.
SCMP Economy reports that the long-delayed project has faced nearly a decade of setbacks tied to financial scandal and shipyard mismanagement.
Defence officials said the timeline is unchanged, telling parliament in a July 7 written reply that the decision to exclude anti-ship capability does not affect the delivery schedule.
