Puratos targets regenerative agriculture for wheat sourcing by 2030
The company aims to cut CO2 emissions by 30% from its regenerative agriculture plan, with 100% of global flour volumes in Europe and 25% elsewhere by 2030.
Puratos is rolling out a regenerative agriculture-focused wheat sourcing strategy as it works toward a broader target for its flour supply chain. The company plans to enroll about 30% of its wheat flour volumes in mass balance regenerative agriculture programs in partnership with supply chain participants, aiming to reach 50% by 2030, according to World Grain.
Puratos also said 50% of its global flour volumes will support regenerative agriculture programs by 2030, with Europe at 100% and the rest of the world at 25%. The company added that the initiative is intended to contribute to a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions.
To implement the approach, Puratos said it works with farmers, cooperatives, and milling partners to encourage practices such as crop rotation, reduced tillage, and cover cropping. The company framed the strategy as an outcome-based farming approach focused on improving soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and supporting water management, while creating long-term value for farmers and communities.
