Redfin adds historical ZIP code weather data to all home listings
The Weather Company will supply ZIP code level temperature, precipitation, snowfall, humidity, and UV index data across Redfin.com and its mobile apps.
Redfin is partnering with The Weather Company to add historical weather data to for-sale home listings, aiming to help buyers compare neighborhoods based on year round climate conditions rather than only home features.
The Weather Company, owner of The Weather Channel app and weather.com, will provide ZIP code level information including temperature, precipitation, snowfall, humidity, and the UV index. The data will be integrated on listings across Redfin.com and the Redfin iOS and Android apps.
Redfin cited demand for climate related information in home search, pointing to an Ipsos survey it commissioned in which 22% of Americans planning to move to another state said better weather was a motivating factor. Another 21% said concerns about climate change or natural disasters influenced where they want to live.
The rollout is part of Redfin’s broader effort to expand property level context, including its Sunscore, a 0 to 100 score indicating how much sunlight a home gets. Redfin also offers Walk Score for walkability and climate data from First Street for flood, fire, heat, wind, and air quality risk, along with conversational search that lets users discuss preferences with Redfin.
