Ukraine expands drone attacks on Russia-linked oil shipping in the Black Sea

Ukraine said it struck 17 Russia-linked oil tankers, 2 gas carriers, and a tugboat early July 15, signaling an expansion from the Sea of Azov to the Black Sea export route.

OilPrice reports that Ukraine has expanded drone attacks on Russia-linked shipping from the Sea of Azov into the Black Sea, aiming at vessels tied to Russia’s oil and gas export network.

According to OilPrice, Ukrainian forces struck 17 Russia-linked oil tankers, 2 gas carriers, and one tugboat early on July 15, with a follow-up official report and video evidence expected later in the day.

OilPrice also said Ukraine’s campaign is part of a broader push against Russian shipping suspected of operating as a shadow fleet, including efforts targeting tankers and cargo ships believed to be transporting looted Ukrainian grain and fuel supplies.

OilPrice added that Russia has also attacked commercial vessels near Odesa, and that a Tuesday strike killed five seafarers and injured 12 others in one of the deadliest single attacks on commercial shipping.
