US CPI shows baked foods and cereal prices rise 0.4% in June
The CPI for all food at home increased 0.2% month over month, while cereals and bakery products remain elevated versus the 1982-84 benchmark.
The US Consumer Price Index for baked foods and cereal products rose 0.4% in June, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Within the category, the index for all food at home increased 0.2% month over month.
For cereals and bakery products, the June index was 368.8% of the 1982-84 average before seasonal adjustment. The cereals and cereal products index rose 1.0% from May and 2.4% from June 2025, while the bakery products price index climbed 0.1% from May and 2.5% from a year ago.
Milling and baking tracked 18 specific items month over month, with 12 increasing, five decreasing, and one unchanged. For example, rice, pasta and corn meal rose 1.5% versus May and 3.2% versus June 2025, and breakfast cereal was up 0.8% from May and 2.3% from June 2025.
The Food Industry Association said the June food inflation print was relatively steady and should be welcome for grocery shoppers after larger increases earlier in the year. It cautioned that uncertainty remains, citing potential impacts from global energy markets, geopolitical tensions, supply chain pressures, transportation costs, fertilizer, animal feed, weather disruptions, and trade.
